Fighting the Crowds
There are many strange traditions in New York, and last year began a new one, the Annual New York City Pillow Fight. This year’s was the second consecutive year that Union Square was ’stuffed’ with pillow-packing people ready to brawl.
It didn’t take long for the feathers to fly, it seems that this crowd of young, mostly-students and downtowners had a lot of pent up rage, for some reason. Maybe it’s the cost of tuition, or maybe it finding a way to spend that $1000/week allowance from daddy.
As you can see from the videos, it was quite an affair with no shortage of police/authorities and amateur press. I was alerted to the story from Rocketboom’s Friday episode, and on their Saturday show, I actually found myself in the frame.

Also, check out the coverage from Gothamist.
