Josh Rouse in Warsaw

On a Friday night, we took the short journey to Warsaw in Greenpoint, where we pretended to be Polish all night long.

And Josh Rouse was there! And he rocked. With any luck, I’ve hooked Bonetti and Joaquin on his music.

A Walk in the Park

Now that it’s Spring for real, and the April showers have subsided, I figured I’d take a walk through the Park for at least part of my lunch break. Somehow it feels like I won’t be doing this again for a while.

Gotta love the folks who lay on the rocks like lizards in the sun.

Times Square on a Sunday

Mischa calls and tells me to come into town to see Hello, Goodbye, a band with a distinctly teenage following. And so I found myself walking through Times Square and the Theatre District on a Sunday afternoon.

Ok tourists, MOVE!

Shooting from the hip, as I love to do.

Norah Jones at Madison Sq.

I love it when I can go to a concert and simply be in awe of the talent on stage. That is Norah Jones. Playing to a full house, mostly of post-teenagers, she played and sung for a good 90 minutes, not missing a beat or faffing around the entire time.

And who knew she could play guitar?

First, dinner with Mischa at some Korean joint, then to the Theatre at Madison Square Garden — an eccentric but excellent sounding venue where the bathroom has loads of urinals! Man, I’ve never seen such a thing.

Komedy Night

Like Christmas, and Tax day, Keith Malley‘s standup comes but once a year. And so we braved the rain and headed to Crash Mansion down on the Bowery to meet with friends and see a show.

Never failing to entertain, Keith put on quite a performance, as did his supporters, Keith McNally and Bobby Mitchell. Not to mention the afterperformance by Brother Love and his band.

Plus there was ice cream cake. Almost makes you forget about the rain (and the fact that I had to walk from Marcy St. station home). A good time was had by all.

At the Compound

Finally cashed in on an invitation from Keith Malley to come out to “The Compound” in Queens and play poker Friday night. Turns out I didn’t end up playing because the game didn’t start until, what, 3 am? But we did have a good time all around, just joking and eating junk food.

Tonight was somewhat special because Keith’s standup show is this Sunday and there are lots of folks in from out of town, including several Canadians! A good time was had by all, including those, like me, who nodded off once a late night became an early morning.

Was pretty cool to watch a taping of the podcast, and it will be interesting to listen back to it and see what was picked up on mic.

No Bread

At home, for Easter. Not that we’re Catholic. So I guess I should say I was home for Passover, although not the first night, which is in many ways the only one that matters. My family have a strange relationship with religion and tradition, and it seems that this is the only week where my mother actually bends fully to her Jewish roots.

I found this to be an ironic example of life in my parents’ house when no children live there full-time.

That’s the bread drawer, in case you didn’t know.
