Music in the Park

Buy two tickets, find someone to bring. That’s the way things work these days, especially for Mischa, myself, and now Laura.

Bonetti invited me over to watch Keane in Central Park. It was the end of their tour, and an all-in-all pleasant way to spend an evening in Spring. Great weather, open air, overpriced BBQ and watered-down beer. I love New York.

Arm Rasslin

What do you get when you put one crazy Israeli with ADD and put him up againt a Southerner with a sorted past? Fun, that’s what.

To Nice Guy Eddie’s to watch Deuce and Spooky settle their dispute with a good old fashioned match of arm wrestling. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as organised and scripted as we had hoped. Spooky tore something in his arm, but that was only after we managed to find Deuce, who was faffing about somewhere on the phone. And we almost got banned from the joint, but that’s not the point.

Hey Joanne

Joanna Colan
Joanne Colan, host of Rocketboom

On the streets of New York you never know who you’ll meet, and this morning I ran into Joanna Colan of Rocketboom.com fame. Like most everyone on 14th St. in the morning, she was on her way somewhere, but I called her out and said hello for a brief second. She had to run. We said goodbye. And the next time we meet, I can say “we’ve met, remember?”. That’s all. Uneventful.

Why am I writing about this? Read between the lines, fools.

Johanna’s Graduation, part II

Continuing into the work week, Johanna’s graduation ceremonies and rituals (which seem more like a Roman Festival), moved venue to the Ritchie Colosseum, a more intimate gym where we could see students from Johanna’s School of Health and Public Policy receive their degrees. Have their name announced, etc.

Johanna’s Graduation, part I

And then there were none…

Johanna, my dear younger sister, is officially a university graduate. Today, we drove down to Maryland to attend the first leg of her marathon two-part graduation ceremony. First, the scramble and hotel-shuffle to get people from three cities to arrive at the same time. Airports, cards, and lots of caffeine were involved, but eventually we made it to Washington, DC to lunch at Phillip’s, a seafood buffet where we all ate like southerners.

Afterwards, back in the cars and the dash to College Park. Along with the thousands of attendants and graduates, we packed into the Comcast Center — Charles, Mischa, Mum, Papi, my Jewish Grandparents, Uncle Ed and Janice, and her mother Pearl, and I all watched, and laughed and smiled.

I’m All Right

Folks, you know how I love Madeleine Peyroux. Well, if not, yes. Here’s an awesome video she’s kicked up. Props for the black-and-white style — I think we need to show the kids more like this, and less like, well, the others.

This is why NYC is awesome. And no, this never gets old.

13 x 2 = Me

It’s always a hard sell to get the old Jersey crew to trek in to the great New York City, but today I managed it — what being my birthday and all.

And so I quietly turned 26. An unremarkable age, another year gone. I find birthday’s a bit depressing. Not quite like Eeyore, but difficult. Luckily, my cooky rabble of friends are close at hand…
