Curry Night with the Rugby Team

Not to play or to practice, on this occasion the men of the New York Rugby Club assembled to eat Indian food and toast to our friend Nick Baker who is leaving New York after a number of years with the club. Adieu. And also to welcome the Australian lads, Darcy, Mick, and Walt, who will be here for the Fall. Welcome.

I guess the dubious highlight of the night was AJ vomiting into two water glasses before dinner was even served, and then stashing said glasses on a counter behind us, rather than disposing of them in the toilet. Class.

Jazz in Washington Square Park

As Summer expires, we accept that there are fewer and fewer chances to wander outside and enjoy the City. With Rashan, freshly laid off from his job of nearly two years, we watched two rather bad movies, Jennifer’s Body and Surrogates. Then to the park, where a band later identified as The Loose Marbles played for a crowd of summery onlookers.

Sadly, I was partnerless, and unable to provide the folks with some swing-based entertainment.

Ignite NYC and Apollo

First, to sort of party/networking event for Ignite NYC. I’m afraid I didn’t actually make it inside the auditorium to hear the presentations, because I immediately headed uptown to hang wit Leah and see a taping of Spectacle, the Elvis Costello show.

My first time at the Apollo and my remarks are pretty much the same as everyone else’s: very small, but dig the artful engravings, etc. Well maintained, good sound.

A long night, with taping having run a solid 3 hours for a 1-hour (or rather, 42-minute) show. It will be interesting to see how they edit the whole thing down.

Nolcha Fashion Week

Brittany invited me to attend a fashion show, wherein new clothing from the up-and-coming designers would be on show. But more importantly, she’d be modeling. So off I go to the Czech Consulate (where else) to take part in the fan fare and become part of the rituals of Fashion Week.

Well, at least there was free coffee.

Unexpectedly, ran into Andrea, another old Drexel schoolmate and Dance alum. Good times.

Late Summer Lunch

Out to lunch with Brittany, who is in town for various Fashion Week hijinks, Rellek, and new pal Izzie, on what is surely one of the last super-nice days of the season. Soon it will be autumn.

Excellent way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Afterwards, I met up with Rashan.

Lempop

Kendra and I bake Lemon Poppyseed Muffins. Actually, she did most of the work.
