Instagram to Flickr to Feedburner to WordPress

As the title of this post indicates, I have discovered/hacked a way to send my photos from Instagram to this WordPress blog automatically.

The State of Me

In the mode of my college days, when I would record these journal-like entries on a slightly-more-frequently-than-seasonal basis, here comes a bit of relfexion and thought on the state of things.

First things first. As you have no doubt noticed, I have become pretty active on my various blogs. At this point, I’ve got three up and running and I’m adding content to them multiple times a week. It’s nice to have all the content segregated by relevance in a very “lid for every pot” way. But what’s lacking from all three blogs is some quantity of original content, like this which I am writing at this very moment. Clearly, I have opinions on stuff — from design, to money, to life in the City, and being a twentysomething. Yet I don’t express it as much as I should. Nearly every article I read about promoting your blog/podcast says, very close to the top of the list, post often and consistently. That’s a challenge in and of itself, but making the content original and unique is just as much of a challenge, if not moreso.

Trouble.

I am having some trouble importing my entries from my previous blog. This is a bit scary because I have several years of posts which, in a worst case scenario, I will have to re-post manually. I have the data, so it won’t be that bad. But it will still suck.

Patience, dear friends.

New now know how.

Ok, so not what you were expecting. Heck, not what I was expecting. I am in the process of migrating this site over to a WordPress blog and maybe even re-designing it at some point. As you can see, the content of the site is not exactly here right now, so check back later. I uploaded all the same photos, so if you really need, you can link to the photos – or whatever.

Be back soon, promise.

Updates, coming soon

Ok, so here’s what I’m planning to do to this site in the next few weeks.

    1. Transfer my domain name and hosting plan to a better server (GoDaddy.com)
    2. Build a WordPress blog on the new server using a bare-bones theme
    3. Import my existing entries and touch-up and glithces
    4. Create a new theme for WordPress and enjoy the new and improved Divingtank.com (v4)

I think this will be a good thing in the long run because WordPress is so much better in terms of bloggin software and my current host is really frustrating, especially with Webmail. Also, with WordPress, we will see the return of Comments thanks for the brilliant Akismet and their ability to detect spam comments with their plugin.

In the meantime, you may see some really nasty temporary pages, or perhaps none at all. But worry not, I’m on the case and I’ll be back as soon as I can – depending on how the workweek, and the apartment search go.

And of course with any upgrade and reamp, there is the slim chance that I will lose everything and my life will severly suck while I try to recreate everything.

I’ve Moved (My Blog)

I’ve been meaning to do so for a while, but I finally have taken the first step to migrate my blog off perezfox.com. Here’s a breakdown of what has been done, and what’s to come.

perezfox.com will remain my professional site. It will feature my portfolio more centrally and will soon have a dedicated section for my CV. I plan to keep a blog on that site, but change it to more of a ‘professional’ blog, with design- and advertising-related entries as opposed to personal photos and rants.

divingtank.com will become my personal site with no professional content. It will feature my photos and entries from the past, and of course the future. I also plan to re-design the new divingtank.com to reflect the separation.

So what happened to the old divingtank.com? Well, Diving Tank Studios, LLC, is all but disbanded. Technically, we still exist, but after some paperwork, that won’t be the case. Jay and I have decided that we are not in the right situation to be in business for ourselves. That’s all. We’re still up for side projects, of course.

When? Look for the functional changes to be completed in the next 3-4 days. A long weekend will help me sort things out and make the necessary changes to both sites. Look for new content to my portfolio (perezfox.com) in about 7-10 days and look for a re-design of divingtank.com by the end of January. It’s gonna be busy.

Also look out for my podcast – a show which I will be creating with Joaquin.

Bloggers Beware

There have been many controversial issues of bloggers being fired for things they may or may not have written on their blogs. And it would seem that I have been doused with this 21st century acid.

I didn’t lose my job, but something similar happened. I am not going into details here, because, unlike some people, I am a reasonable person and don’t bear grudges and judge people whom I have never met.*

But I have to say that his event has opened my eyes somewhat, and in an effort to make this site more professional (that is, 100% professional and 0% personal), I will be moving my blog and photo archive to another site. This site will be updated to reflect the changes. Look for that in the next week or so.

But to those of you who have recently been reading my site and making false assumptions about my social habits, the President has a message for you. (see below). For the record: I, like the President, do not drink alcohol or use drugs. Unlike the President, I have never used drugs or drank alcohol.

* I do, however, bear grudges and judge people who I have met. Everyone has the chance to piss me off in person.

4.5 reasons to cheer

Yes, its here. Perez-Fox.com has been given a facelift and I am calling it version 4.5.

I decided to redesign the site for two reasons. First, it had to match my CV and portfolio which have also been given facelifts in the past few months. And second because it was just time for a change, I was getting sick of the old template, etc.

The reason I am calling it only a half version update is because the changes are still somewhat superficial – all cosmetic changes. The architecture of the site is still the same and is the colour scheme, navigation, style sheets and the entries and photos themselves! But, it looks different enough to ‘feel’ different and so I’ll let it be that way.

There may be some glitches and I am still trying to sort out the body text style on the category and date-based archive pages (which no one looks at anyway). And hopefully I will be adding the portfolio page sooner rather than later.

In an effort to fight the never-ending battle with Spam, I have decided to remove commenting entirely from this site. While Blacklist has proved immensely useful at filtering out spam messages, I have gotten sick of seeing the receipts in my inbox and logging into my site to remove them.

For you, friends, family et al. You can still just email me if you want to let me know something. But I suspect that I will be seeing most of your comments on Charlie’s Forum since most of the readers of this site are from a small pool of 7 or so people.

I haven’t posted in a month mainly because of two reasons. One, my computer was broken for a while. My hard drive died and had to be replaced, so I was without a comp for ten days. Now, true, I can post from the web, but it just doesn’t feel the same. Second, it was the end of the semester I was really trying to concentrate of getting my stuff done, and therefore not going out, taking photos, or even having any profound thoughts.

I am planning to redesign the look of this site in the next few weeks. So expect version 4.5 very soon. Also, I will be adding my design portfolio here making it the one-stop site for all things SPF.

This Summer, I am going to make the conscious effort to get out more. I have been indoors too much for reasons such as lack of money, busy with projects, too tired, etc. But its time to put all that aside and enjoy the English Summer.

It’s the 21st Century and I’m a young man in Britain! The future is now!
