10 Years of Thankfulness

Today is Thanksgiving, and tomorrow is our ten-year reunion. And while I’m not usually the sappy type to list things for which I am thankful, I have to say that over the last ten years, I have a lot to be thankful for. When added up, the past decade has been an immense time for me — learning, seeing, growing, doing — and it has made me the man I am today. So in spite of my less-than-brilliant life situation (eg, broke, single, unemployed), I still have to give thanks.

In the last ten years, I:

Thanks to everyone who made the last 10 years necessary.

    In Boston

Autumn in New England. It has a certain smell, and the air is crisp. Dry. Shadows are long, even in midday and laughter can be heard from many a basement of a ratty bar in Cambridge.

Travelling this weekend, first to CT to visit the grandparents, then into Boston to see Keith and the Girl and to hang with Nick Baker who I haven’t seen in some months. We toured the great Universities of the Boston area – at least Harvard and MIT, and continued our walking tour downtown. The common, etc.

The show was great fun and we laughed heartily. Afterwards, a band called Merit performed. Good stuff. Although we had to leave in order to preserve the remainder of our scheduled events the following morning.

    Here Comes the Sun

Visiting Johanna for a weekend at Maryland University and her awards ceremony for the College Park Scholars.

Uneventful, but at least the rain stopped!!

    10 2005

    Patillas a Las Vegas

The Patron Saint Festival of Patillas. Lots of lights and cheesy rides and on-the-spot eyebrow piercings. Not to mention drunk people and more Puerto Ricans than you can shake a stick at.

Also, random shots of Pollo Tropical who blatantly stole the Tropicana OJ font. Shame on Florida, again.

    08 2004

    El Yunque, and Chickens

Caribbean National Forest. Green and in all other ways cool.

    08 2004

Isla Verde & Old San Juan

Summer Holiday to Puerto Rico, day one. Got off the plane and went straight to the beach, of course we were tragically unprepared to go to the beach that day so we went to Old San Juan.

    08 2004

    Streets of Baltimore

Went to Baltimore to play rugby. Didn’t play rugby. Went to smelly house of Johns Hopkins players. Watched idiots get drunk. Went in search of food. Took a few shots while walking. Ate with Rob and Chris. Drove back to Philly. Took a nap. Went Swing Dancing.

    04 2004

    SHPE Gala

SHPE Sliver Masquerade Awards Gala, at least thats how they decided to spell it. Speel check people, speel check. Got to wear a suit, dance a bit. Emma Paez, sweet girl I will likely never meet again. Venezuelan with a southern accent, sorta dig it, really.

    Big Easy earns its name

Wound up in a club on Bourbon St. Watching a homemade bikini contest. The winning contestant had just been featured in hustler magazine. The reason I knew this is because someone busted out the issue and had her sign the page where she was getting nailed by some hairy bloke that looked like a Turkish footballer. Annie something was her name. Whatever.

    New Orleans, Day Two

Karaoke at “The Cats Meow” and the shock of New Orleans by night. Sensory overload, much.
